All in all, if you want this to read and write DVDs and CDs, it's fine. That won't recognize the disk because it's looking for the internal drive, so you HAVE to use VLC, which isn't one of my favorite apps. The side screw brackets have very poor alignment with the actual screw holes on the SuperDrive (this one is a 2007-made superdrive, removed from a 2012 A1278), and the screws themselves all are made of a very weak metal where the screw heads will strip on the first attempt to screw them in, rendering all installations permanent.īut, the enclosure itself works fine at adapting the strange small form factor SATA plug to USB, which is why I give it 3 stars - satisfactory.

The "top" screw (the one on the side of the PC board) is almost impossible to get in because of the bezel. Of course, I tested my SuperDrive before screwing everything together, but I've found a few issues with this enclosure that bears mentioning. High-end DVD drives include software that improves reliability reading disks that have fingerprints or minor scratches. Rating: 3/5 Functional, But Not Perfect With external optical drives becoming obsolete and with prices decreasing to the point where they are approaching the price of this enclosure, I'm not so sure that buying this enclosure was the best idea. Since internal DVD drives may not be very popular in modern computer design, there’s never been a better time to buy an external DVD drive.
